About Littondale – The Stunning Steep-Sided Valley
Littondale is a spur off Wharfedale with several small villages, a flat valley bottom and the most stunning steep-sided valley, so a perfect location for a photography course in the Yorkshire dales.
On this workshop, we’ll be starting at Kilnsey Crag to get a few shots of the high rocky outcrop, then heading up the valley taking in the villages, high passes and epic views down the valley from the hills above Halton Gill.
What we’ll see on the day
This is a road-trip workshop, we take short stops at lots of locations, so you get maximum variety from the day.
A huge overhanging rock – great meeting point near the pub. We’ll get a few shots of this whilst we assemble. It’s often packed with rock climbers, we can have a go at capturing them too.
Small dales village with a pretty ancient church and village green. A classic old pub called the Falcon too.
From here there is a small road up the valley side which we’ll go up to capture a high view over the valley. Then we’ll return to the valley floor and head onwards.
Halton Gill Stream and Bridge
Next stop is the pretty bridge at Halton Gill. We can make some watery shots from there, and also capture the village itself.
Views from the hills above Littondale
After we’ve finished in the valley floor, we rise steeply to get views like these
Pen y Gent views
Time permitting, we leave the valley itself and head around Pen Y Gent to the Malham area – there are some amazing views of this iconic mountain.
Malham for Sunset
The final leg of the journey will be a stop off at either Malham Tarn or a peculiar tree growing out of rocks on Malham rakes!
