Description
Welcome to our Malham workshop
Capture the best of Yorkshire with expert tuition and stunning scenery on this weekend photography course.
Whether you’re a complete beginner, or want to improve your skills, the Malham Photography Workshop is guaranteed to bring out the photographer in you. You’ll be guided through everything from composition and framing to camera settings and techniques by a professional photographer with fast-approaching 20 years of experience.
If you like, you’ll also learn how to capture that perfect shot using manual settings: it is, after all, one of the best skills for consistent images.
The dales at its finest
Malham is a magical place and no better time to enjoy it than on our photography workshop.
Located in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, it’s an amazing rugged landscape with dramatic views and gorgeous sunsets. I’m sure you’ll agree that it makes for a stunning backdrop to some great pictures … but it takes more than a pretty location to produce great photos!
This is Gordale Scar, taken with our little Drone – we’ll be walking up the path you see at the bottom to see inside the huge gorge!
Opportunities to photograph a wide range of subjects, including:-
- waterfalls
- limestone,
- cliffs,
- trees
- a huge lake
All with guidance from pro-photographer Ade Wilson to help demonstrate technical and creative landscape skills, and be on hand to help with all of your questions throughout the day.
Creative and Lots of Fresh Air!
This is Malham Cove.
Today is all about:-
- sharing ideas with you
- showing you beautiful locations
- learning about composing landscape images
- learning how to seeing like a photographer,
- watching and learning from a landscape pro
- asking all those photography questions you’ve got
Who is it for?
On this photography workshop, you will learn how to capture your love of landscape photography in one of the most beautiful and picturesque places in the UK.
This photography day will hone your landscape photography skills with some plain speaking advice on technique, composition and camera settings. You will be guided through the techniques used by professional photographers so you can get the best out of your camera and enjoy using it. By the end of this workshop, you will have captured some stunning images of this magnificent area.
If that sounds like a great way to spend a day, then this is for you!
From there we’ll see many* these great locations:-
- Janet’s Foss
- Gordale Scar
- Malham Cove
- Malham Tarn
- Malham Rakes
* we’ll visit as many as time allows, depending on the pace of the day.
The minimum equipment is
- A camera and lens(es) – ideally a DSLR/Mirrorless, but you can get lots our of it with even a phone camera
- Fully charged batteries – if you’ve only got one, buy a backup – you don’t want to run out!
- Empty memory cards – back up your old photos first so you’ve got lots of room to shoot all day
- Warm clothing – you stand still for photography so need more layers than for walking and other outdoor activities
- Walking boots or wellies – in case of mud and rocks
- Snacks and drinks – there is a sandwich shop in the area, but it’s worth bringing food and drink.
Recommended optional equipment
- Tripod – strongly recommended
- Filters – polariser, ND filters, ND Grad filters
- Cable release
- Head Torch – it’ll get dark at the end, so could be handy for walking back to the car
What happens on the day?
The plan is to enjoy a leisurely day at many locations, the walking is “light” and mostly on the level – so any level of fitness should be fine.
Refreshments and toilets are sparse in the area – there is a public toilet at Malham Car Park and usually a sandwich and coffee van at Gordale Scar – so we do recommend bringing along snacks and drinks to keep you going.
Our endpoint will be at sunset above Malham at Malham Rakes – the exact finish time will depend on the weather, but should you need to leave earlier please just let us know – it’s not a problem at all.
Places are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment
